About body-centred approachesYour emotional history is locked deep into your muscles as patterns of chronic tension with an emotional charge, programming your body to respond in certain ways and influencing not only your physical nature but your entire character and outlook on life.Imagine laughing without a voice, grief without tears, nervous butterflies without a stomach... Right here, right now, we are alive in our bodies, experiencing the world in all its joys and pain. Yet sometimes our body can be a stranger to us, or maybe an opponent that we fight against. We may be baffled by its needs or the things it does. It can often seem that our bodies have a mind of their own.The key to understanding many of our difficulties is to realise that the body holds our emotional history just as much as the mind does. The stresses of life can get locked deep into our muscles as chronic tension carrying an emotional charge, and our behaviour can be determined by this locked-in tension. These embodied patterns (called ‘body armour’) influence not only how we walk, talk, move and breathe, but also how we think and feel. The body becomes ‘programmed’ to respond in certain ways, affecting our whole character and outlook on life. These embodied patterns may be sending out signals that lead other people to treat us in ways that are not consistent with who we are or what we think we are communicating. They may cause a rift between what we believe and how we actually feel and act. Our inner struggles to resolve conflicting tensions may result in persistent poor health or ‘dis-ease.’ I offer various forms of body psychotherapy (Reichian therapy, Postural Integration) and Pulsing to help you find solutions and connect with your true self on a new and deeper level. If we choose to build a different relationship with our bodies we find that the body both grounds us in reality and is a touchstone for our true feelings: the body never plays mind games and is the safe refuge from confusion and overwhelm. Body-centred approaches are the truly holistic alternative to counselling and psychotherapy, and can help with many problems: relationships (emotional and sexual intimacy); problems reaching orgasm or premature ejaculation; stress and anxiety; low self-esteem; health issues; body image and diet; and many more. They are also wonderful routes of personal development, empowerment and creativity. » Services I offer Free Initial ConsultationWe will need to have an initial consultation session so that we both can decide if we feel we can work well together. This is an opportunity for you to ask questions about my approach and to tell me some of your story so I understand what you need. Unlike most therapists, I do not charge for this. » Contact, location and fees » Back to top |
